Thirteen Places I've Lived

1. I started my life in South Dakota. Yes, people actually live there, and no, I didn’t turn off the lights when I left—there are others still there behind me! I lived the first seven years or so in the beautiful Black Hills—partly in a nice house built by my parents at the foot of a mountain. Our good friends lived on top of the same mountain. Well, maybe they were hills, but when you’re seven they look like mountains. I miss the sound of wind in the pines.

2. Miami. At age 17, I thought I knew it all and had no fear. I left home and drove (alone) to an uncle’s home in Miami. This is where I learned to drive like Mario Andretti (I’m dating myself) by dodging in and out of traffic. I don’t drive that way any more (much).

3.Maryland. I was going nowhere in Miami, so I joined the Navy to see the world. I saw Patuxent River.

4.Married my hubby and moved to Texas, where everything is big, especially a body’s pride in being from Texas.

5. Skipping ahead, lived in Daytona Beach within earshot of the track where the Daytona 500 is held.

6. Indiana: Notre Dame, Amish country, RV’s, and musical instruments.

7. Texas, where everything is big except state taxes.

8. Wisconsin, where I helped with a successful political campaign, and where our children learned to square dance and made good friends.

9. Texas, where everything is big, especially the commute.

10. Puerto Rico for only two months, but two months was enough to see most of this lovely little island. It was enough to convince me I didn’t want to live there long-term, unless the Lord sent me.

11. Texas, where everything is big, especially the country kitchens.

12. High Desert, CA. We renewed extended family relationships, became a motocross family of sorts, and made good friends.

13. Virginia. The historical garden-land of America. Making good friends here too!

Thanks for sharing about all the places you've lived. You've seen a LOT of the grand ol' USA. Where was your favorite place? Ever been to Georgia? Sounds like people in Texas take as much pride in their state as we do here in the South. :)

Heather, thanks for visiting. I HAVE been to Georgia for a visit. It's been many years, and I don't remember much,to be honest.
